Two-sentence Prayer Thursday: Help My Disbelief

God is not impressed with our extensive vocabulary or how elegant we can sound with our words. Rather, He is looking for undivided hearts toward Him, true dependence upon Him, and daily communication with Him as well as relationship. With that said, we will take Thursdays and post Two-Sentence Prayers to pray. We pray we are sincere, yielded and responsive to the answers, love, and wisdom God gives us as a result of seeking Him wholeheartedly even in the simplest of prayers.

Mark 9:23-25 states,

23 “‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.”

24 Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”

Seems like an oxymoron right. How can you say you believe one minute but help my unbelief the next? Well think of it like this. Have you ever believed God for something, say like a bill getting paid; no one could talk you out of that belief? But when it came to trusting God and believing Him for your healing, you just couldn’t quite believe that your healing would manifest. Maybe you believed you were being punished and thought it wasn’t God’s will to heal you and/or maybe you didn’t meditate on God’s Word concerning His healing virtues and promises. This father mentioned in Mark 9 believed God yet doubt would creep in. However, Jesus was unbothered by His disbelief for death, sickness, and doubt are no match for God’s grace, mercy, Word, and power. Yet, we must allow our faith to be strengthened through God’s Word and prayer.

Today’s Prayer:

Father God,

Help my disbelief and break up the fallow ground in my heart. Purify my heart and strengthen my faith as I saturate in Your Word and seek You daily. In Jesus’ name, amen.
